The Reserves returned to winning ways last Saturday and here is the match report:
Corfe Castle 1 Hamworthy United 2
Dorset Premier League (Saturday 27-11-21)
This was a must win game for both sides who were occupying the bottom two positions in the league-table before the game. However, the atrocious gale force wind and the very poor pitch condition meant any decent football was out of the question, and it would be a battle against the odds all the way. Recently Michael Wearden (Last season’s very successful Under 23 Manager) has taken over the running of the Hamworthy Reserve Team. He has introduced one or two more experienced players to help the promising youngsters coming through which is already beginning to pay dividends
As described before it was very difficult to play any sort of decent football, but it did not take the Hammers long to open the scoring. In the 9th minute Erickson Mukambi found the net from a Jack Delves cross to make it 0-1 to United. However, that lead did not last long; in fact, just five minutes before Corfe Castle equalized. To make matters worse with about twenty minutes on the clock Hamworthy were reduced to ten men when Josh Malpas was sent off. He tangled legs with a Corfe player who was going through on goal, and perhaps a little harshly shown a straight red card. The score remained the same until the half time whistle came.
HT 1-1
The second period continued much as the first half. To their credit ten men Hammers did not give up, and they continued to push for the win. They at last got their just rewards in the seventy-ninth minute. Joe Wearden threaded through a pass which was picked up by Richie Galeg who had stormed through from the left-back position. He kept his head to find the back of the net and give his team the three points they so richly deserved. This win takes United out of the bottom two and with several games in hand of the teams above them. Their next game is at home to near neighbours Poole Borough who are just one point above them in the table and who they beat away in the cup.
