For the Hammers first home game of the new season, they welcomed Portland United to the County Ground. After a win and a draw in Hamworthy's first two league games - another win would be an important result to carry on the form from last season.
Hamworthy got the game kicked off. Portland made an early chance just three minutes into the game - it was a shot from a tight angle and it ends up in the side netting, just minutes later Hamworthy are up the other end with a chance of their own - this one is sent over the bar.
The opening 10 minutes both sides had good possession with Portland making the most of it and that was evident no more than when they took an early lead through a goal from their number nine Greg Borthwick.
The first half is full of chances for both sides be that from a corner or a shot on goal both struggled to find the back of the net after the opening goal until on the verge of halftime Hamworthy found that little bit of magic they are capable of with the Hammers number 11 Matty Neale putting away the equalising goal just before the break.
The whistle goes for halftime and its all level at the County Ground.
Portland United kicked off the second half with it all still to play for both teams in the final 45 minutes.
It didn't take long for Hamworthy to find a second goal after Matty Neale nods in the second from a corner in the 48' minute, and his second for the game.
Hamworthy were certainly dominating the second half having more chances than they away side and after a scramble in the Portland box as Portlands Caleb Tennant went down with an injury triggering the first substitution of the game, 64 minutes in.
Towards the end of the 90 both sides are creating good chances it was just a matter of time before one found the back of the goal and in the 86' minute it was Matty Neale for his hatrick slotting the ball past Portland keeper Michael Edgar.
